When the Prophet arrived Madina and built his Mosque, someone was sneaking to defacate in the Mosque on the spot that the Prophet usually stand to lead the prayers.
The Prophet organized vigilantes to identify the person.
It turned out to be his next door neighbor, a Jew.
The Prophet said they should ignore him and pray that he became a Muslim.
When he didn’t defacate in the mosque for three consecutive days, the Prophet checked on him and found him sick. The Prophet organized treatment for him and paid for the treatment.
That was the first Jew that voluntarily became Muslim in Madina after his recovery.
I don’t know from which Qur’an and Hadīth people get the wrong ideas from on Islam. There is only one Qur’an in the world – no Nigerian or Hausa/Fulani versions.
I think it is shear wickedness not illiteracy.
Anyone that can read and write in any language is not an illiterate by definition.
These people ,(especially the Sheikhs and Imams) are proficient in spoken and written Arabic language.
Otherwise we will classify the Chinese, Portuguese, French, etc, as illiterates because they can not read and write in “English”.
